JOIN THE TEAM In the Global Research Division, our multifaceted team works together to develop functional materials and systems for high-performance, innovative and sustainable solutions for our customers in various different industries. At the same time, we meet the legal and economic requirements and implement Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design principles. RESPONSIBILITIES In our Dept. of Analytical and Material Science unit we are looking for a postdoc scientist (m/f/d) to strengthen our activities via Material Science to support Safe-and-Sustainable-by-Design (SSbD) innovations. You will work in interdisciplinary teams on SSbD case studies for various industries like home care polymers, carbon capture materials, energy management, with a special focus on materials properties that support early screenings in SSbD-oriented innovation for new chemicals or materials. Furthermore, you contribute to develop and demonstrate SSbD concepts. This requires the selection and interpretation of intrinsic properties (structures) and extrinsic properties (the interactions in environmental or physiological systems). You will coordinate both commercial as well as customized methods, and will adapt these to the case studies. You will work closely with other units in BASF, e.g. experts on toxicology, on performance screening, on sustainability assessment. Moreover you will coordinate the BASF contribution to collaborative projects with academic partners, and will lead the peer-review publication of the results. QUALIFICATIONS PhD in environmental chemistry or related disciplines, on which you earned above-average marks proven experience in the assessment of environmental and/or human risk by chemicals direct involvement in previous SSbD projects is a plus experience in collaborative, multi-partner, multi-disciplinary projects as well as a basic understanding of toxicological methods is an advantage experience of standard computer programs and well versed in using good English skills on a daily basis joy in contributing creativity as well as initiative team player with strong cooperation as well as communication skills BENEFITS Responsibility from day one in a challenging work environment and "on-the-job" training as part of a committed team.
